Armenians first arrived in Israel in the 4th century. There is a Mosaic that is dated at some point in 6th century, first proof of Armenian presence, but Armenians believe they first settled in Israel 2 cnturies earlier, in the 4th century as stated. This population speak Armenian and Arabic.
The second wave of Armenian immigration was following the Armenian Genocide, which took place in 1915. Garo's father came in 1918. This population speaks Armenian and Turkish.
After the Soviet Union fell there was a third wave of Armenian migration to Israel, this is because there was religious intermarriage in the Soviet Union, many between Armenian and Jewish singles. when the Soviet Union fell, the la of return allowed these Armenians who were married to a jew or who had shared Armenian an Jewish heritage to immigrate to Israel. This population speaks Armenian, Russian and Hebrew.
Armenians are the first Christian nation, they accepted Christianity in year 301.
Armenians in Israel are Israeli citizens with full civil rights. However, they are not obligated to serve in the army. Many volunteer nonetheless,, either for direct army service or for national service.
In Armenia, there is a mandatory 2 year draft, even if a man is studying in a seminary in preparation for the priesthood he is not exempt from the draft.
